Where to use your new brand photos & business portraits first.

So you’ve had your personal brand shoot recently and you’ve just got your snazzy new business portraits delivered. You absolutely love them and you're super excited. You’ve downloaded them all and saved them safely in a folder on your computer. But you’re feeling a little bit overwhelmed by all the amazing photo choices and you’re not quite sure what to do with your new photos or which ones to use first.

Well don’t worry, because I’ve got you covered!

Here are a few ways I suggest you get started with using your personal brand photos so you can start standing out & show your amazing business off!

1. Update your profile pic across all your platforms.

First thing to do is choose your favourite portrait to use as your profile photo. I suggest you choose one that’s quite close in on your face as profile photos are often viewed quite small. Remember it needs to work when it's cropped as a square and circle.

It would also be great to choose a portrait that hints at what you do, so people can get an idea of how you might be able to help them, straight away.

You should use the same portrait as a profile photo across all your platforms to help with brand consistency and so people remember you!

2. Update your about page photo.

If you have a website, you probably have an about page (or at the very least an about section). Next to the text that tells people who you are, you should have a photo of yourself too. This photo should be friendly and welcoming, to encourage people to want to get to know you. Depending on your business, think about how else the image portrays you. Maybe it should show how professional you are, or how creative you are, or show off a bit more about your personality. This is an important photo to consider carefully as it will help people decide if they think they could work with you.

3. Update your home page banner.

The banner at the top of your website home page is the very first thing people see when they arrive on your website so it needs to stand out, and make people want to stick around.

You’re going to need a horizontal photo for this, and one that’s not zoomed in too close as it will get cropped as a skinny rectangle on some devices.

This photo needs to hint at what you do, so people know who you are, what your website is all about, and helps them feel like they are in the right place.

I would also try to pick a photo that works colour-wise with your website. It doesn't have to match your brand colours exactly, but it needs to look nice alongside everything else on that page.

4. Share a (re)introduction post.

Now it’s time to share an introduction or re-introduction post on your social channels. This is to help your audience get to know the person behind your brand, so be personal. Choose a friendly, welcoming photo that will grab peoples attention when they're scrolling. You might even decide to do a carousel of a few photos or create a reel with a slideshow of photos if you want to use a few of your new photos in one go. Choose photos that show off your personality, hint at your offerings, and show off anything unique or interesting about you. You should repeat this (with other photos from your album) every month or so or when you get an influx of new followers.

Another post idea is to share your photoshoot experience with your audience. If you have any behind the scenes footage, you could mix it in with some of the final images!

5. Next steps.

  • Next you can start adding various photos all over your website to show people who you are and what you do.

  • Create some engaging content for social. You could share single photos with relevant captions, create carousels, reels or add photos to graphics.

  • Update directories, PDFs, and printed marketing materials. Like your social pic and about page portrait, choose great portraits to put alongside your business info on directories and other marketing materials.

  • There are loads more ways to use your photos so next make sure to go through your new photo album and mark all your favs. You could also pop them in to various folders so they’re ready for when the next opportunity to use them comes up!
