How to prepare for your London Mini Brand Portrait Session.

With just under 2 weeks to go until my Spring Mini Brand Portrait Sessions begin, I thought I’d share some advice about how to prepare for your session.

So if you’ve booked your spot already you will have a received a prep guide from me with lots of advice but have a read below for a few of my top tips. And if you haven’t booked a mini session yet, there’s currently still a couple slots left, so you can learn more about the mini sessions here and grab a slot while they last.

Ok so lets get straight in to it!

What should I wear for my mini portrait session?

As the mini sessions are just 25mins we’ve only got time for 1 outfit, so come ready wearing it, but feel free to bring a couple of accessories for some quick variations.

When choosing your outfit think about your brand colours (or colours that hint at your business vibe) but also consider which colours compliment you best, as this is really important. Avoid big brand names and logos as we want to focus on YOU and not the brand of your clothes!

If you want, wear something that hints at your business. For example if you’re a food business you could pop on an apron for some shots.

Think about the vibe you’re going for too. Do you want to look fun, casual, creative, sophisticated, or corporate? Most importantly, be authentically you and feel comfortable in what you wear!

What props should I bring to my mini portrait session?

Mini sessions don’t really allow much time for props like my larger shoots, but you can have a few shots with your phone (just make sure it’s clean & maybe invest in a new case) or a small relevant prop such as a camera for a photographer or a book for an author.

How should I do my hair & make-up for my mini portrait session?

If you’re getting hair or makeup done for the shoot do trial it ahead of time in case you don’t like it.

Most people do their hair and makeup themselves and many come au naturel. Whatever you decide, I recommend keeping it simple, natural and how you would most likely look if you were to meet a customer or client in real life. People need to be able to recognise you!

Moisturise your face, lips and anywhere that will be exposed to the camera, as dry skin isn’t the best in photos.

Bring a pocket mirror, comb, vaseline and tissues for touch ups.

Plan for your mini portrait session.

During the week before your mini session, make a checklist of all your items, wash & iron your outfits and pack the day before so you don’t forget anything important.

Plan your route & leave plenty of time to get to your mini session location in time for your time slot.

About nerves & confidence.

90% of my mini session clients have told me that they don’t like having their photo taken, are camera shy, or are feeling nervous. This is totally normal. Please don’t worry too much because you’re in good hands and one of my biggest priorities on shoot day is to make it fun! But I do have a couple of tips that you can try yourself ahead of the shoot.

Have a read of these blogs for some specific tips on nerves and confidence.

Try to have a restful evening ahead of your mini session. Take a bath & go to bed early. Try to clear your schedule on shoot day so you have nothing else to worry about.

If you’re especially nervous send me a message or tell me how you’re feeling on shoot day so that I’m aware and can guide you as best as possible.
