Self love tips for camera shy business owners & entrepreneurs.

As Valentine's day surrounds us this week, I wanted to talk a little bit about self love. Sometimes we need a little reminder to treat ourselves better. And when it comes to running a business, we really need to be our own cheerleader in order to help our business thrive.

One of my favourite things about being a personal brand photographer is that my work helps people show themselves and their small business off, so that the world can understand how valuable they are!

But so many entrepreneurs and small business owners find it difficult to promote themselves confidently. They struggle with firmly owning and expressing what it is that makes them unique, and quite frankly amazing. To boost your brand and visibility though, it’s vital to show up confidently and let people know all about who you are and how you can help them. You need to toot your own horn! And personal brand photography is a great way to do this.

Unfortunately though, the idea of having your photo taken can be a really intimidating thing for a lot of people. Many of my clients have to fight their lack of confidence or “fear” of being on camera. It’s not easy to be the face of your business but it’s even harder if you hold so much of your value in your physical appearance.

As a brand and headshot photographer, I meet so many people who sadly seem to feel that their worth is tied up in their looks. I have people telling me how much they need professional images for their business but that they can’t stand having their photo taken. People who say, “I need to lose weight first” or “change this” and “change that”. People who get so caught up in their physical “imperfections” that they put off having a brand shoot all together, even though they know it's harming their business.

Personal brand photos are not your typical photos though. They aren’t a memento of something, and they probably aren't going to be framed or put into an album like your family and holiday pics (although by all means you can!). To be completely blunt, they aren't really for you. They are for your customers and clients, which is why as a business owner, they are not a luxury, but a necessity that you can’t afford to put off.

So if you are struggling with the idea of having your photos taken for your business, try to concentrate on the value you bring others. Concentrate on your skills, your services, your products, whatever it is that you have to offer, and the unique way that you do it. There are people out there that need you. And people that will really value you, because you could help them!

Trust me, these people do not care what you look like. But when you have personal, well planned photos of yourself that you can share with them, it will help them remember you and even get to know you. When your audience sees the person behind your brand, they are much more likely to feel part of your story. Professional and personal portraits combined with great brand messaging is such a powerful way to connect with your ideal audience.

So please, understand that you have SO much value beyond your looks. Go get yourself some amazing personal brand photos, be your own cheerleader and show off how amazing you are. Help the people that need you, and help your business grow!

And I’ll tell you something, a lot of my clients do come to me feeling nervous about having their photo taken, but there's nothing more magical then when they receive their new brand photos and get a massive confidence boost because they actually like their photos and can’t wait to share them!

So who knows, you might actually enjoy your photo shoot, and even like your photos… surely it’s worth a try?
